Ahh, sod it...I might as well give this shot. Better to have tried and failed, than never tried at all, right?

To get the ball rolling - this is one of the few forums that I've often visited consistently (apart from a couple of on-off periods along the way, mainly due to external circumstances beyond my control). The reasons being that:
1) I like the place, plain an simple. Otherwise I wouldn't be here, would I now?
2) I've been a member since back in the days of the older incarnations of the forum, though under one or two different names that currently escape my memory. I've made quite a few friends here over the years as a result of this.
Now, the sections of the forum I mainly frequent would be both
The Human World Academy and
The Streets of the Underworld. Specifically,
The Dark Place We Call Home in The Streets of the Underworld, and the
Library of Doom in the Human World Academy.
The reason I visit said boards is that TDPWCH has always been a board where I feel I can just hang out and chill with the friends I have here, and enjoy the usual batch of assorted laughs and oft random nature of the board itself. As for TLoD, I often find myself enjoy the written works of the forum's more creatively minded members and have even tried my own hand at creating something once or twice, specifically in regards to the Library's RP subforum,
Within the Empire's Walls. I've always enjoyed a good bout of the old RPing malarky, though sadly never got much chance to partake in the older forum's RP boards. That said, I would genuinely love to see the RP board grow over time and become a more active part of the overall forum...perhaps even a staple part of the whole, if things go really well over there.
The Library board, and specifically, the Walls board, are the two post-worthy places I'm most active, in the sense that posts made there are usually worth something, as opposed to the general mass of not-so-valuable posts one can find in places like TDWPCH...and I don't just mean in terms of post count, either.
Now, the reasons I decided to give this application a go, and why I feel'd I'd at least have a chance of being an alright moderator are:
1) As has been said, I've been familiar with the forum for a long while now (my join date can attest to that). Because of this familiarity, I've grown to know the environment, the people, the way things work, and even the nuances and culture of the forum, if you will.
2) Though generally quite a laid back person, I know when it's time for a laugh, and when it's time to take matters seriously. Also, while not exactly a forum-related trait as such, I've done several years of martial arts training, and part of that involves the helping and teaching of younger members. With that in mind, I feel I could at least bring some of that skill and experience over to the role of being a moderator, in that I would be able to aid less experience; and in the event that a situation arises that I wouldn't be able to adequately resolve by myself, I would know to seek out the aide of an appropriate member of staff with more experience that myself.
However, should there comes a point where a warning or two need to be laid down, I feel I would be able to deal with the situation and/or individual(s) in a firm, yet approachable manner.
3) I have a reasonable degree of free time on my hands, so I would generally be able to stay active in the course of forum duties; and in the event that any circumstances beyond my control arise, that would in any way affect the carrying out of said forum duties, I would know and seek to notify the appropriate individuals of said circumstance well in advance, so as to ensure that forum business continued to operate smoothly.
In regards to what board I would be assigned, were I to be selected as a moderator candidate, my chosen boards would rank as follows:
1) Library of Doom (more specifically, Within the Empire's Walls).
2) The Dark Place We Call Home (though truth be told, I would have no bother with being allocated to any of the boards in the Streets of the Underworld).
I realise that applicants should submit their 3 preferred boards, but I really can't say I have a third choice of board. I hope that this will not cause any undue problems, but I understand, and thus would like to offer my apologies in advance, if such is the case.
As I said, I've been here for the most part - barring a few exceptional circumstances - over the course of the part couple of years, since the days of the earlier forums. While I have kept a relatively low profile, I have managed to make quite a few good friends here over the years, and I don't plan on discarding them any time soon.
Oh - and as a finally point: if being 'evil' is actually required to a degree...well, I'm certain I could deliver on that end. ;]

Well, that was...wordier than I had anticipated. Quickly reading back, it feels more like CV for a job application. ^^;
Anyway, there's my application for a moderator's position. I thought I'd toss my name in and give it a shot, regardless of the outcome.
If there's anything that I may have missed, then please feel free to alert me to it, and I'll try to rectify it asap.
And like I said at the beginning - is it not better to have tried and failed, than to have never tried at all?
