I know there already is a topic whit "other" recommendations, but I would like a special corner just for us, josei fans.
So first, I will explain what josei means.
Josei it's a genre associated to describe some mangas. Literally it means "Woman". The genre targets women between 18-30. Female equivalent to seinen. Unlike shoujo the romance is more realistic and less idealized. The storytelling is more explicit and mature.

I'm still reading shoujo, but at my ages is harder and harder to read cliches so my interests developed towards this genre that even targets my age. XD

Some titles that I loved and would recommend to anyone:

1.) The Boy From the Moon - it's a shame it was dropped by the author, but even that one volume makes it worth it.
2.) Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Si-Do - another grate title put on hiatus by the manhwaka [I'm so unlucky when picking them *wah*]
3.) Talking about - really enjoyable.
4.) The Other Side of the Mirror - it was a little short, but the art was great. and the oneshot 99 roses from the first volume was excellent!
5.) Blanc Marie - really funny josei oneshot
6.) A Funeral Procession of K - different and addictive! It talks about one's obsession for love.
7.) Dokuhime - It's still ongoing, but the story looks really promicing
8.) Vampire girl - actually, I've read all of Fujiwara Kaoru's works. they are all little jewels just waiting to be admired. I really recommend all her works :) .

I'll come later with some more recommendations. Till then feel free to list your favorites and talk about the ones you liked best :) .

Nodame Cantabile and Usagi Drop are some of my favorite Joseis, but i'm following Katana, where a swordsmith families son who specializes in refurbishing swords can see the true human form of a blade. its very good.

My favorite Josei would be mangas by Yumeka Sumomo-sensei and Kaori Yuki-sensei.

I love Yumeka Sumomo's Watashitachi no shiawase na jikan <---- this is technically labeled as Seinen but I think it's a perfect josei manga =[
The story of WnSnJ is just so bitter sweet that it made a great impression on me. An innocent man guilty of murder and a free woman internally trapped Q__Q it's just so touching.

I also love Nodame Cantabile for the humor and music xD.

My favourite josei would probably be +C: Sword and Cornett. I've read as much josei titles as the fingers on one hand and this is the I liked the most. It's setting and plot is close to being shounen/seinen, but the cast of characters proves otherwise.

I've seen and read the Saiyuki series and liked it, but Reload bored me. I'm also following Are You Alice? since the plot looks interesting but it's still new so I can't say anything else.

I've read today Heart o Uchinomese! at a friend's recomandation and it was great. At first is seemed shoujo, but the story develops really good and I love George's Asakura's works.
I would also recomand Piece of Cake and Suimitsutou no Yoru from the same author. I don't understand why some of her works are rated as shoujo. I'm currently reading Oboreru Knife and it has no shoujo elements in it....maybe only the art.

@randomass: if you liked Usagi Drop try Cousin as well. they are somehou simmilar, just without the funny parts. Cousin is more on the drama part, but really enjoyable :).
Nodame Cantabile is really excellent, I can't disagree. I haven't read the manga, but the anime is in my top 5 :).

@vaccine: you are so right! Along with George Asakura those 2 are also my favorite mangakas. I've read everything scanned by them. I even own Angel Sanctuary and Fairy Cube. SAHARA Mizu [aka Yumeka Sumom]'s stories are really deep. I even enjoyed her shounen-ai works [and I don't like boyXboy relationships @.@]. About Kaori Yuki, besides the art that is pure love for me I also love her original dark stories :) .

Watashitachi no shiawase na jikan was my escape manga before an exam. I've read it to relax my head from all those formulas and after that I couldn't study anymore because my eyes were all puffy from tears XD. Does anyone notice that is the top rated and read manga along titles like Berserk, Naruto, One Piece that are in the top for like...forever. That said a lot. Even thought it's rated as seinen the art and story bring it really close to josei. anyway, a very good read regardless of the genre :) .

@ carboncopy: I'll try +C: Sword and Cornett [you made me curious :) ]

Oooh this is a great place for me to find new titles XD
I've always wondered what Seinen and Josei are (i've seen those words thrown around but I never really cared to look them up)
and I finally did and I realized that that and horror/psycological stuff are basically my favourite genres :D
I really like Oishii Kankei it's not bad and it makes me happy reading about food :D
Kindan no Koi was okay - slightly akward cuz its basically beastiality....O_e
anyways I'm definately going to check out all these recommended reads

Same here Invidia, at first I didn't know the difference between them but when I saw that all titles rated as josei had a more mature and complex feeling to it, I started to question myself why, and there is was manga-updates coming to my rescue and explained me what the genre meant XD.
Hope you'll enjoy all those recommendations. ^^
I'll come back with more after I'll read some more, or maybe some members will help XD.

...are those mentioned series complete? i'd really LOVE to read more josei (hit me with all you've got, guys!) but would rather read it in one go than wait a month for the next chapter.

So far, I think Nodame Cantabile. Nodame and Chiaki are funny.

Usagi Drop was pretty cute (thanks for the recommendation, randomass), I'm definitely looking for the actual books of these.

Other stuff that I think people should try out:
Honey and Clover - Once I got into it, I thought it was pretty funny. This one is a very character-centered show and it's pretty well-made as such.
Nana - While I'm not a big fan of Ai Yazawa, she really writes intriguing stories. This one is quite engaging, especially since it's narrated in the point of view of two estranged friends recalling the past. It gets rather confusing, but it's fun trying to piece the events that transpired based on the narration.
Darling wa Namamono ni Tsuki - This will probably be the only Yuki Yoshihara work that I like. I found it pretty funny especially since it's such a bizarre situation.

OMG how could I forget Honey and CLover!! Yes, definitely a great josei manga. I have read and watched this series so many times  (and I still L.O.V.E it) I was never a slice-of-life fan, but Honey and Clover was an exception hehe :05d:
I also enjoyed Nana, but it felt more shoujo-ish to me :05ac:

I liked the josei made by Mari Okazaki:
Shutter Love the plot may be classical but they the author develop it is pretty nice.
Sex no ato Otoko no Ase wa hachimitsu no Nioi ga Suru (damn long title XD)a manga at the threshold of the genre of yuri. Several beaituful sotries.

I basically like any manga by Enjouji Maki, like Hapi Mari and Yoru Cafe. Her characters are funny and the men are not bad looking so they are fun to read. I also like the newer stuff by Yoshihara Yuki, they are really funny, especially in Chiyou yo Hana yo,

Ahh, yes. Yoshira Yuki-sensei :3
It's amazing how all of her mangas make me laugh >.<. I also like Chiyou yo Hana yo for all it's humor

I'm not sure, but does Fumi Yoshinaga's Ooku count as josei? It doesn't strike me as seinen, so I think it counts? As I said, I'm not sure. I tend to think of it as josei because of how women have a primary role in it. There are men, to be sure, but given how the traditional gender roles of feudal Japan are reversed in this manga, I kind of think of it as josei.

Either way, I think it's a fabulous manga. For one, it was nominated for the Eisner Award in 2008, which I think is a pretty big deal. The Eisners are the most important comic book awards in the United States, which makes it kind of interesting that a manga would be nominated for one of the major awards. When I read it though, I wasn't surprised at all that it was nominated. The art is lovely, to be sure, but I think what really sucked me in was the concept. Imagine: two-thirds of the male population of Tokugawa-era Japan has been wiped out by a plague that only affects young men, which means that women have taken over all the important roles in society - including the role of Shogun. The remaining men are kept and protected, with the Shogun having her own personal harem housed in the "ooku," or "inner chamber." I'm a huge sucker for anything to do with history, especially alternate-history, so Ooku was right up my alley.

Word of warning, though: the Viz translation is a bit...well, "funky" is the best word, I think. It's as if the translators, in an attempt to capture the tone and flavor of the Shogunate-era Japanese Yoshinaga must have used in the original, while at the same time attempting to make it accessible to contemporary readers, combined Shakespeare's English with contemporary American English. The result is really rather weird, and takes a bit of getting used-to, but once you're over that hurdle, the story is pretty much a black hole that sucks you in and doesn't let go.

Another josei that I've loved is Tramps Like Us/Kimi wa Petto, which is about this journalist who finds a young man in a box just outside her apartment, and takes him in as her "pet." She then subsequently struggles to keep her "pet" a secret from everyone, including her boyfriend. I just adore Sumire, the lead character, because she's really a driven career woman who will do what she can in order to get ahead in life. She won't compromise who she really is for the sake of man, though she'll adjust a little bit to accommodate the one she loves - and hell, isn't love about compromise anyway?

So far, I think Mars by Soryo Fuyumi would be my choice. It's great because as the genre says it's realistic. One review which I read said that it's a mixture of all genres, so saying it has all. The artwork is neat, the characters are detailed deeply. And the hero!Arghh..he's so cool and hot and he's the veryepitome of a rebel. I recommend it.:)

Mars is actually a shoujo manga :ysmile:, but I agree with you that it does have the the elements of a josei manga since the topics are pretty mature.

Umm, there isn't really one and i can never be sure if the ones im mentioning are actually are josei (that's what the website said though!)
anyway, so the ones that i can think of are....

Shuukatsu
Yume Chu
Venus ni Arazu
Spicy Pink

these ones are a couple of volumes and the art is absolutely gorgeous so they're really good reads - I'd really recommend them. Ther's also manga by Tomu Oomi (Midnight Secretary) which are really interesting. I'm going to try the ones mentioned now!

Ok, I've updated the first page with your recommendations. I haven't added Mars and Yume chu because these 2 are rated as shoujo. the same goes for Kaori Yuki's works.
I haven't read anything recently, but I will come back with some more recommendations after I do :) .
P.s.: titles that have more then 1 recommendation were marked with bold.

Guau!! I really look forward for this post!

As you, I'm growing tired of the cliched shoujo and I'm throwing myself at more and more josei titles.

Some of my recommendations are:
-Kimi Kara no Resume. This is a bit old so the art is not that charming but the story is definitely worth it.
- Midnight secretary. Add one vote for this one and every manga of Tomu Oomi
- Eternal Sabbath by Soryo Fuyumi the same author of Mars. This one had a bit of everything: seinen, psychological, supernatural and in my opinion, josei as well.
- Private prince. This one is more light, but enjoyable as well.
- Silver
-Hotaru no Hikari. this is a funny story about a spinster.
-full house. Please, note that its Full House only. I know that there is another manga called "Full house kiss", a good one too but its shoujo. The one I'm talking about is unfortunately incomplete the scanlations, but as far as I know it has a sequel to it and korean dorama as well.
-Nodame cantabile, of course. It's a lovely story about music.
-Nana, another incomplete story. Excellent as well. I really like Yasawa Ai's works.

There are many, but I can tbink of these ones for now.
Thank you for the other titles! I didn't know many of the ones you said. I'll check those ones up.

Thank you for your recommendations ktho2! ^^
I've updated the first post.
Also, I love Full House :D . I saw it's not added here on EE. I'll upload it soon ^^.
Also, I recently read Oooku. It was pretty boring at the beginning, but it gets pretty good. I can't believe I only have this up to volume 2. I'll definitely buy this :D . I won't give spoilers, but it's really original and I rarely see a manga in witch woman have to take the place of men :D .

PS: Eternal Sabath is a seinen.
