Now I have watched and read my fair share or Shoujo material, I would have to say I prefer reading as the storyline can be developed over a period of time. But I have to ask when watching Shoujo which is better live action or Anime? Upon comparing the two I have found that I am in favour of both depending on what it is. For example, Hana Yori Dango - I prefer the live action TV series (not the movie)compared to the anime, mostly because the live action was in line with the manga, also I preferred the Korean live action no offence (but the Japanese are not renowned for their acting skills :05m: ) and personally I didn't like the style of drawing or the story line in the anime. However on the other hand you have Lovely Complex and frankly I have to say I prefer the anime on this one it was a lot funnier and I also felt you could relate to characters better as they were more animated, don't get me wrong the live action wasn't bad.

So I put the question out to you.
What other anime's have been turned to live action which do you prefer? and why do you prefer it?
Do you agree with my sentiment regarding HYD and LC?
Which anime would you like to see turned into a live action and why?

Please as per usual to my posts
No bashing, no ridiculing other peoples posts and of course forum rules always apply.

Well in my opinion, whether an anime or live-action is better depends on the resulting live-action. There is no general rule that applies. And it's also a matter of opinion, right? For certain series, the anime is better, for others the live-action is better. And for some...the manga is the best version.

With regards to the HYD...i personally enjoyed all versions of the live-action over the manga. It's just the manga art is not to my taste. And I cannot make a conclusive decision on whether the Taiwanese version, the Japanese version or the Korean version was best. They are all too different and distinctive to be compared. However, the Mainland version wasn't really to my taste....

I've never really tried out Lovely Complex (coz I didn't think I would like it) but if you recommend it I might give it a go ^^

And which anime I want to turn into a live-action?
Again it depends because some live-action are awesomely made whilst others aren't. Awesome ones are Hana Kimi, Hana Yori Dango, Gokusen, Kimi wa Petto, It Started With a Kiss, Crows Zero, Mars, Peach Girl, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, Death Note, GTO, NANA, Ikebukuo West Gate Park, Nodame, Antique, Unfair, Yaoh, Yuukan Club...
But some that I particularly couldn't enjoy include: Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, Mei-chan no Shitsuji, Zettai Kareshi, Bambino, Honey & Clover, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Transformers, Otomen...

So to answer the last question...I would actually love a Skip Beat live-action (they're planning a Taiwanese version) but then I'd be scared of how it may not do the manga justice (the anime should've continued on to include VIE GHOULhttp://the-evilempire.net/public/style_emoticons/default/05g.gif)

I'd also love an Ouran High live-action...but this series is even riskier as a live-action due to the excessive comedy and crack (which some young actors cannot pull off). However if it was done in the style of Hana Kimi (Japanese version), then that would be awesome!!

I have to agree with so me of the anime you have mentioned i.e Kimi wa Petto and Gokusen were turned into really good live action drama, but I really like Zettai Kareshi apart from the poor acting I thought it was well told story that might have deviated from the manga, but it was still engaging. As for Mei-Chan no Shitsuji, I have to agree that was diabolical...it wasn't engaging at all. As for anime I would like to see turned into a live action drama, I would have to say Vampire Knight, though I have to say I don't hold much hope of it being well made.

I generally enjoy live actions that have been adapted from mangas because they take a "different approach" or view of the original plot. The anime is always nice to watch since you can watch it come to "life" but watching a live action makes it come to life even more. In short, I enjoy both. :) (It's a plus if the actors do a good job!)

I like watching both the anime and live action. You get different things out of the same story by watching both, though you really can't compare them since different mediums offer different advantages.

With anime, you can create a storyline that is truest to the original manga (if that is what you seek, but that's an entirely separate issue altogether...). Some of the comedy and wacky visual effects can only be expressed in anime form. Anime is like actually seeing the characters, which you have already envisioned in your mind as you read the manga, move and talk across the screen. And some genres, like sports and fantasy, are best viewed animated than real life...(Prince of Tennis, anyone? Those impossible moves in real life? You've got to be kidding me -_-)

With dramas, I think the stories become somewhat more relatable since you're watching real humans going through these ordeals. We get the actor's interpretation of the character which adds a different dimension to the characters we already know and love. Plus there are some nuances that just cannot be captured by animation no matter how advanced it is. Things like intricate facial expressions and emotions that you just intuitively feel while watching good actors perform their roles are treats that you can't find in anime.

Dramas are generally allow more freedom to the storyline due to the nature of the medium and the limited length (9-12 episodes), so we end up with some changes to the storyline. But unlike some people who throw a fit whenever the story detracts from the original storyline, I actually like it when the anime or drama changes things up a little to spice things up a bit. It's like, you already know the original story so what's the point of watching something that is EXACTLY the same, but in a different medium? Change is good, it offers perspective.

Hana Yori Dango was the manga that introduced me to the world of live action. I loved the manga and anime so much, I was curious when the drama was announced and decided to check it out. I really loved it and thus began my journey to seek out other dramas, even ones that are not based on manga.

I'll admit the anime style of HYD was kind of old-ish (similar to the manga) which made it difficult to watch but I thought, for the most part (at least until the ending), it stayed true to the manga. The drama, however, compresses the manga storyline to 9 episodes of about 45 mins. Nevertheless, I loved seeing the characters in human form.

A live action movie is not the same as a serial drama series, given that the series have more time to flesh out the plot, so you can't really judge the movie in quite the same objectives. I liked the Love Com live action movie. It made me laugh, the actors looked great (very similar to their manga counterparts), and the main plot of tall girl who fights with short boy but who really love each other is still there and comes across clear as day. It serves as an introduction to the series for those who might check out the manga series after watching the movie.

I actually thought the change of characters from high school students to adults in the working world in the Zettai Kareshi drama was really well-suited. It always did feel weird that the original characters were mere teenagers.

A live action drama that I thought was really done well (and hasn't been mentioned) is Nodame Cantabile! I'm sure most of you will agree with me ^_^ Everything from the actors, the chemistry, the music, the mixture of live action and animation, was spot on.

I would really love a Skip Beat drama! I've been wishing for the longest time! I did hear that there was going to be a Taiwanese drama, but frankly, it's just not the same! I find it weird that the characters are speaking Chinese and not Japanese...plus Taiwanese dramas tend to over-act and insert too much comedy, which I don't particularly like. As much as I like Hana-Kimi, what happened to the storyline part-way through? Every episode became a different competition between the three dorms and a chance to insert more nonsensical slapstick comedy.

I would also like to see one of my favourite manga in live action: Fruits Basket! Although I have no idea how that could be made possible or whether it would work out... Computer animation, I guess? Hmmm... I wonder....

Anime. Sorry, I just don't like how live action twist and turn the manga's story plot. If I were looking for something new or that which stray far from the story than I think I would like live action more but I'm the kind of person that doesn't like changes to things that I like. For anime the characters' design stay much the same and I can see how the actions in the manga translate to how they do it the anime. It's neat to watch it all unfold instead of reading and connecting each panels. For live action, it's hard for me to connect a character to an actor/actress. Unless they're really good and can sell it to me, I find it really hard to get into when I have to imagine them as the manga's character.

I think it all depends on the PD of live action. Some I've seen are great such as Gokusen first season, I love the cast and it wasn't far off from the original which I quite enjoyed. Anime I say I pay attention to how they draw the characters. I was disappointed in Vampire Knight's animation because of the drawing which didn't appeal to me to continue even going on from episode 1. Sadly I'm a person who judges things by their art. Some live action I've seen were also far off of the original plot like the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango. Same case with anime sometimes. I guess it really depends how they decide to "kill" the orginal xDDD and if they don't kill it, well it would turn out to be one heck of an anime/live action :D

So many of the mangas turned anime or turned live action things get left out or like in the case of Naruto anime a million filler episodes that have nothing to do with the actual series.
I prefer just reading the manga so much more is covered.
However I do enjoy Hana Kimi with Ella! Also Gokusen but I wish it had more of the story line with MatsuJun. Where is her Red Lion!!! And where is her man?
Like all conversions you also have to worry about actors not looking like how you imagined they should be. Sigh.
But either way Im going to watch and read them all!!!!MWAHAHAHAHA... :05x:

Well as long as it is well done then I don't have a preference, but the key words there are well done. I think it doesn't really matter if it is anime or live action as long as it portrayed well. I will admit to a preference of the story staying true to the manga (or at least the idea behind the manga) no matter if it is anime or live action. That is usually where I have the most issue with any show. I can also live without the need for filler episodes that do seem to prevail in long running anime, such as Bleach and Naruto to name two.

Well I have not read/watched HYD so I can offer no opinion. As for Lovely Complex I have seen the anime, but I was unaware that there was a live action out of this story. I will have to check it out and then give you my opinion.

As for live actions that I have seen that I enjoyed I have to say Gokusen is by far my favorite so far. I have just started Wallflower and I have yet to form an opinion of the live action drama for that one, but the anime is not too bad.

Manga that I want to see turned into a live action...that requires some thinking, but maybe Kare Kano (if it hasn't already, Im just now really getting into the live action dramas to be honest) or perhaps Mars.

Frankly, I really prefer to see live actions and the original anime a different entities because they are 2 different types of medias and a live action can't be portrayed in the same way as an anime is. I've seen some live action probably trying to stay closer to the anime (by doing pratically identical scenes and dialogues) but the results seem just more shallow because I think a lot the things portrayed by animes are just too 'fantastic' to be translated into live action for the audience to really believe in them. Of course, I think some stories can be more easily adapted into live actions but I think most really need a lot of original inputs from the screenwriter to make it a success.

J: I must admit that some Live actions that I've seen are good but others are irritating to watch that I want to forgo watching both that and the anime and read the manga.

AJ: Anime is better for manga's that have a lot of effects needed in them other wise it falls flat on its face.

What other anime's have been turned to live action which do you prefer? and why do you prefer it?

I've seen a lot but I have to agree Nodame Cantabile drama was pretty good. It captures the essence of the manga and even heightens the pleasure of reading the manga. Other LA as good are GTO, Kindaichi Shounen no Jikembo and Itazura na Kiss(japanese version). The recent Moyashimon drama is also on par I think.

Do you agree with my sentiment regarding HYD and LC?
I personally think the Japanese version was the best. If we go by character, the Japanese version had a lot spot on. They didn't butcher the plot too much too. The best Tsukushi was the Taiwan version. The best Domyouji was MatsuJun. The best Rui was the Taiwan version. I've read the manga, watched all 3 incarnations. Didn't watch the anime though. I hated the HYD movie. It's too much.

As for LC movie, it was pretty decent. But I dislike the anime too so there :05ac:

Which anime would you like to see turned into a live action and why?
A lot :05n: Ouran Host Club, Gakuen Alice, Fullmetal Panic!, Skip Beat, Furuba, CCS..
However if they are going to butcher the story I'd rather not.

I like them both but I really really liked the live action ones I've seen, but it may be because the only live action ones I've seen are the ones most of you have listed as the good ones....Hana Kimi,HYD, Gokusen (I think I've seen more but I can't think of them at the moment).

I absolutely loved Hana Kimi, it was close enough to the story to keep me happy but it had enough twists to make it unique. Someone said that if Host Club was done the way Hana Kimi was done it would be awesome....I completely agree, they have to cast the right people for the funny roles(like they did for Nakatsu) or it'll probably end up being awful.

As far as HYD goes, I liked the Japanese version most. First reason being that I love MatsuJun, second reason being that I can't stand Ella (so sorry).

And now I have to go watch the LC one, somehow I didn't know it existed. Yay for something to watch!! :D

If I had to choose between anime and live-action, it is anime :)

There are some dramas that are actually really good, but most of the times they are just too exagerated or the story is changed too much. I find that most of the time, the anime will be more loyal to the manga.

I must say i prefer the anime to the live action, but even when i was little i have always liked the cartoons more than seasemee street with real people in it. I feel there is a lot more freedom with animation because anything can happen, just like in the comic world. For example i love the skip beat anime, even though it doesnt continue on with the manga and stops short, just beacause they brought to life all the characters in such a fantastic way that also stays true to how i saw each character in the manga... it would be hard in the live action to have actors be so overly animated without it just looking corny and weird... but thats just my opinion

In my opinion.... Anime...because most of the time life action aren't good enough.
Although there are some life action that I enjoyd... like Gokusen, Hana Kimi & Jigoku shoujo.

Anime that i would like to see turned into a live action are: Kuroshitsuji, Gokujou Seitokai, K-ON, SkipBeat! and Sasameki Koto

I don't like Live Action much because the actors tend to be ugly, also they try to use the same goofy humor used in anime but it ends up looking really goofy and like bad acting...^___^'

I like manga but most shoujo manga's go on for to long with lots of stupid filler...

I like anime because It's a more condensed version of the manga and it's not as awkward as live action. :)

I prefer Anime because in my opinion you can get away with a lot more goofy and outlandish things than in live-action. Also the characters generally look almost exactly like the manga that they are taken from - which is important to me as it is something that is coming from a graphic novel as its source. To me, things that look really cool in anime sometimes turn out incredibly dorky and childish in the live action.

i like live actions but when they try to convert an anime to a live action, it usually doesnt turn out great. the humor in anime is funny because they're cartoons basically and anything goes but with humans, they're humans lol. anyways i prefer anime more.
