Has any one else read this manga? Here's a description:

"This may be a generalization, but there's just something about older shoujo series that really shine compared to some of these newer shoujo series. A perfect example is Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha for short). Created in 1994, this series tells the story of Sana Kurata, a young girl that is much more mentally tough than many typical shoujo "brainless-teenage-boppers-that-can't-stand-on-their-own-two-feet-without-a-boyfriend" characters. Kodocha is a series that isn't just funny and entertaining, it also has meaning and is very touching. It's an absolute must-read for any shoujo fan." <--- Taken from the Spectrum Nexus website.

This is one of those manga's that gets right into the story right away. You grow with the main characters and you realize the pain and suffering they go through. It's an interesting story (that I don't want to go into too much in case I spoil it for some one) that almost made me cry on several occasions. There are extremely painful moments, happy moments, sad moments and the mangaka elicits such raw emotion from the readers (well, at least me anyways).

I've read the entire series and I find it's one of those not so popular ones so I'm wondering if any one else has read it?

yes, i have read it. it is true what you said. the relationship between sana and hayama in kodocha (child's play) is quite funny
and entertaining. but after finish reading it's story, it make me bored. i don't feel the urges to read it all over again.
that's why i don't include it in my favorite series.

i also read it;
Spoiler
it kinda ticked me off after all that strength emitting from the two :05ac: but the end was pretty much sweet and it made me laugh out hard many times; moreover it has some kind of magic that binds you to the series. :05b: even at the most boring parts(which were boring only in comparison to the other parts and were very few) i couldn't stop reading, i just had to see till the end and when it ended i wanted more :05u: it's not the best(like it's not so good compared to Dengeki Daisy, Beast Master, 1/2 Prince and so on) but it's a manga i like, it's a manga with some sort of magic :05y:

I LOVE this manga! It's out of print in the US where I live, but I found and bought it online because I love it so much. The characters go through some pretty heavy stuff for people their age, but being together helps them be strong enough to get through the hard times. I love Akito and Sana! And Naozumi. I cry and laugh every time I read this manga.

I read this manga about six years ago, when I'm still a junior high school student.
I like it, although the story is rather harsh and the character is just beyond unavailibility.
But I love the sweet and cuteness in this story.

Ah! And personally I think that the characters need more meat.. :P

I read Kodomo no Omochaand I found the story to be well written and full of surprises :)

At the beginning, I didn't believe that I would enjoy it as much as I did because it seemed more like a child's manga, than a manga for a young adult, but boy was I wrong! :05p: I loved every minute of this series. It made me laugh, cry from sadness, and then cry from laughing too hard. Akito and Sana's story was just so full of emotion that you wouldn't believe children could give, but, boy did, they give it :) Overall, this was an amazing manga and I, truly, enjoyed every minute I spent on reading it.

P.S.- I think I have read it about 10 times :) The first when I was like 14.

I actually think that this was my first manga ever... this or marmalade boy.. I'm not sure but it was way way wayy back then lol the storyline was decent even though it got a bit depressing at the end.. I just wish there was a bit more at the end, then again the characters were all pretty young xD

Actually I'm kinda surprised that this series is so unpopular. I really enjoyed reading this series. My favorite type of series are where the two main characters have a true partnership. This is such a story. I thought that the mangaka did a wonderful job in depicting the fact that those two needed each other. That they were each others support system and that ultimately even if they could survive without the other they were not complete unless they were together.

While the ending was not as complete as I would have liked (i.e. I wanna know what happened just a bit further down the road) it was a decent ending. It wrapped up what had been going on in the series quite well I think. Overall, I would recommend the series be read. Its a series that has something for everyone, it has humor, romance, and at times deals with series emotion. While everyone has their own taste and perhaps not everyone will like it. I do believe that it is worth taking a chance on.

Personally, I liked it more toward the beginning than the end. I thought the story was more suited to be funny than dramatic. I appreciate that the drama added a whole new side and depth to the main character but I preferred the strength of her character, not the weaknesses. Don't get me wrong, I liked the series, I have the series and I've seen the anime. I'm just saying I wish she hadn't had a breakdown 'cause it kind of turned me off toward the end.

I really loved this manga.
It was one of the first that I read and I thought that it had some nice substance.
The characters were very cute and funny.
It was full of surprises and bit of seriousness that made the series very well rounded.

Oh God, Kodocha. I adore this series; it has a special place in my heart and is definitely one of the top shoujo manga out there. I love Miho Obana's work...she's just amazing. She has the curious ability to capture reality even with the most insane atmospheres. She doesn't write manga where you go "Oh, this fluff is cute...ah it's over? Now I don't care. lol" She is deep and can really write memorable scenes. She does her drama incredibly well.

One of my favorite things about this manga is that the cast starts out as children and stay children for a good while.

I.
love.
child.
protagonists.

Regarding the anime, well, first it was absolutely wonderful and the funniest anime I'd ever seen....and once they went to NEW YORK...I was done with it. That just plain sucked. I was SO disappointed with the ending. I wanted to CRY... :05f:
