OMG, me too!! heidi.. princess sarah.. cedie.. LOL!! i know that there's a swiss family robinson TV show, but anime? O_O lady georgie? what's that about?

it's one of my favourite anime of all time XD ...it's set in australia (well in the beginning at least) and follows the life of a family who adopts this blond-haired girl named georgie. as she grows older she comes to realize that she's adopted and her two brothers (abel and arthur) eventually fall in love with her so there's kind of this love triangle going o. anyway my explanation sucked but the anime is pretty great...not as great as the rose of versailles but pretty good all the same.

anyone remember attack no. 1 (sorry for the german, it's the version i watched as a kid)?

Unfortunately, not me. Now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing sport anime air on TV when I was younger. It was more of Robots (Voltes V), Fantasy (something like Dragon Quest) and Drama (World Masterpiece series).

I can think of a bunch of stuff that I saw on cable TV but I guess the first series I remember on local TV would be Slam Dunk. Of course there was random stuff like Battle Ball and Metal Fighter Miku (You can count G Gundam if you want to, lol) but Slam Dunk is the one I can remember that's based on an actual sport.

Astro Boy!

Oh, and when I was a kid, I saw a movie called "The Fairy Florence." It was about a boy who played the oboe, who was transported into a magical land of music by a fairy. Mainly it was an excuse to play lots and lots of classical music. Only recently did I finally find it-- here,, in fact. Even though it was much cheesier than I remembered, it made me happy to see it again! I think there's a certain sincerity to a lot of older shows that is sometimes (but not always) lacking in more recent ones.

The earliest I'm reading are Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya from the late 1980s.

Saint Seiya is my childhood, I chilled around my house on a Shiryu shirt when I was three :B Though "old" anime is a bit subjective, that depends on your age. As for something considered "older" as in contrast to the 90's/2000's, I enjoy Makimura's works.

Nostalgia is fun :). It's nice seeing what shows made an impression on people when they were younger. I know that I really got into anime because of Tondekeman/Time Quest (of all things XD). It's actually interesting to note that some countries could still be airing older stuff like the World Masterpiece shows. Heck, I still can't believe that Sailor Moon is at least a decade old.
